Pledging Our Sacred Honor
Truth be told, I’ve never even been to New Hampshire. Nevertheless, later this year, I’ll be moving there.
Why? To honor my commitment to you. In other words, I will be moving – along with anyone else who signed prior to February 3rd, 2016, and who chooses to honor his or her commitment – as I said that I would, to join the other 20,000+ lovers of liberty. And our deadline is fast approaching.
Just a reminder, everyone who was among the first 20,000 to sign, committed themselves to make the move within five years of signing, which means that February 3, 2021 is our deadline (However, for those who committed after that date, you have 5 years from your commitment date).
Honoring My Word
Like all of us, I’m a lot of things, and some of them are even good. For sure, one of them is even great: I am a man of my word. Way back in 2006, I was the 6,659th person to sign the pledge. I had hoped that the day would come sooner – it took another 10 years to reach 20,000 – and then, well, you know how it goes, life gets in the way. So now I’m staring my deadline in the face, as many of us are.
Dad taught me that a man’s word should be his bond. So while it’s not particularly easy or convenient for me to make the move, it’s an absolute must that it be done. And, I am doing it with great joy and not even a trace of trepidation. Most importantly, I know that “every valuable thing requires sacrifice.” In my opinion, very few things could be more valuable than our Liberty.
To quote Thomas Paine:
“Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it.”
If we will not sacrifice for Liberty, then who will? If now is not the right time, then when is?

John Trumbull: Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.
Our founding fathers pledged their lives and their fortunes to each other to secure our Liberty – it’s right there, in the last line of the Declaration of Independence: “we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” They were honorable men who lived up to their pledge. Now it’s our turn. We have already pledged to each other.
The Moment Of Choice
The time is short, compatriots.
February 3rd, 2021 is the 5-year deadline that the first 20,000 signers agreed to honor. If you are still hesitating or have any questions regarding the project, please note that the Free State Project has a lot of available resources to facilitate your move to New Hampshire.
And remember, your word – your honor – are among your most valued possessions. However, if you’re going to walk away from your pledge, that’s your right – just make sure you notify the Free State Project of your decision.
And for those like me honoring their pledge, I’ll see you when you move to New Hampshire!
